This trip is not a recommendation for where to go, as it is merely a report on one unique preparation for a possible flood in the center of Prague.

According to the radar forecast, there was supposed to be a rain-free window in the center of Prague. So I set out to see what the situation was like in the city center along the Vltava River. But something had changed. The rain stopped at dusk.

Despite the rain, tourists were determined and "occupied" Charles Bridge. They took pictures at every monument and statue, touching them in the belief that it would bring them luck. There are two main places: the pedestal of the statue of John of Nepomuk (the eighth statue to the right of the Old Town Bridge Tower) and, even earlier, the grid relief located at the spot where John of Nepomuk was to be thrown into the Vltava River. However, they are rubbing these places for good luck with a smile from ear to ear, which is incorrect. Probably no one told them that when touching or rubbing, they must not miss the brass point in the pavement and the star in the cross on the bridge railing. It is also important to know which hand to use to rub which spot and when to use your fingers. Perhaps the guides deliberately conceal this information so that foreigners will have to come back again for good luck.

And so, smiling as I walked past this tourist folly, I came to the statue of the legendary Bruncvík (sometimes also called Brunclík), shrouded in legends. The statue is somewhat hidden at the beginning of the pillar behind the sculpture of St. Vincent Ferrer and Prokop on the left side of the Vltava River and Na Kampě Street. I looked at him, and a pigeon was still looking at him from the bridge pillar. It was as if they were talking about how high the Vltava would rise this time. I took a photo. Between them was a white window on the ground floor, under which a flood wall was being built. On August 14, 2002, the Vltava River reached the upper edge of the window and the street lamp on the right. So hopefully the flood wall will be enough.

I walked a little further to see how solid it was, because it's supposed to rain on Sunday and Monday.

Many people were taking photos, and it was clear that they were watching the rising level of the Vltava River with some concern. But it seems to me that this time the Vltava will not have such destructive power as it did 22 years ago, and Prague is prepared.

I took a look at the Čertovka gate, walked along the Alšovo embankment, and from Čechův Bridge I saw a hole in the embankment towards the InterContinental Hotel. This is probably the only weak point in the flood protection measures. You can see the places I visited in a really short video.
